first of july

hasn't rained in quite a while - weeks. rain barrel is empty. been watering every 2-3 days. have gotten 5-10 cucumbers, snap peas were a huge hit but not a huge yield and have started to dry up. got first few tomatoes - very good. found huge caterpillar on potatoes that has eaten off much of the leaves - will be interesting to see how those turn out if at all. got 2 acorn squash. should plant regular squash next year. watermelons are staring to show up - 2 or 3 about the size of baseballs right now. wild vines turned out to be mini-pumpkins! both eggplants died early on. 1 of 2 peppers survives, but not thriving and no fruit yet.
